A new database to see...

Inspiration is an interesting animal. I've been trying to publish at least one posting each week around the "data quality" domain and most of the time I read lots of postings and news articles until something clicks.

Well, this morning's inspiration comes from a posting at the OCDQBlog which was posted on Twitter by Charles Blyth - named "‘Twas Two Weeks Before Christmas". In his posting, Jim Harris (proprietor of OCDQBlog) posts a very cool twist on the classic written by Clement Clarke Moore.

So, inspiration for a holiday themed posting I now have!

With that in mind I decided to take my own liberties with my favorite holiday tune "Little Drummer Boy", which just so happened to be playing on my iPod when I read the poem. Hope you like it.

Come they told me,
    pa rum pum pum pum
A newborn database to see,
    pa rum pum pum pum
Our finest data we bring,
    pa rum pum pum pum
To ETL into the thing,
    pa rum pum pum pum,
    rum pum pum pum,
    rum pum pum pum,

So to honor them,
    pa rum pum pum pum,
This could be fun.

Little business,
    pa rum pum pum pum
I am a data geek too,
    pa rum pum pum pum
I have some best practices to bring,
    pa rum pum pum pum
That help make data fit for purpose,
    pa rum pum pum pum,
    rum pum pum pum,
  rum pum pum pum,

Shall I play for you,
    pa rum pum pum pum,
So the data's not dumb?

The CIO nodded,
    pa rum pum pum pum
The VP and PM kept time,
    pa rum pum pum pum
I cleansed their data for them,
    pa rum pum pum pum
I cleansed like crazy for them,
    pa rum pum pum pum,
    rum pum pum pum,
    rum pum pum pum,

Then they smiled at me,
    pa rum pum pum pum
And the data's no longer dumb...

Special note: Clearly Jim's posting shows that he put much more effort into this then yours truly.

Happy holidays to all...Rich
